    Early Intervention Autism Classes

  • At School Naomh Áine, we are proud to provide a caring, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children.

Our Early Intervention Autism classes, known as Spraoi, are specially designed to support young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during the important early years of education. They are funded and resourced by the Department of Education.

The word Spraoi means joy, fun and play — values which are central to our approach to learning and development.

    Our Spraoi Classes

We currently have two Early Intervention Autism classes, catering for children aged 3 to 5 years old. Each class has:

    • 1 class teacher
    • 2 Special Needs Assistants (SNAs)
    • A maximum of 6 pupils

This high level of support allows us to provide a calm, structured and nurturing environment where every child is supported according to their individual strengths, interests and needs.

    Our Approach

In Spraoi, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, understood and valued.

We use a neuro-affirmative approach, recognising and respecting each child’s unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world.

Our classes follow the principles of Aistear, Ireland’s early childhood curriculum framework, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning.

Through play, exploration and meaningful interactions, children are supported in developing communication, social, emotional and independence skills in a positive and engaging environment.

We place a strong focus on:

    • Building positive relationships
    • Supporting communication and interaction
    • Encouraging independence and confidence
    • Developing emotional regulation skills
    • Celebrating each child’s strengths and individuality

    Inclusion and School Community

At School Naomh Áine, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Children in Spraoi are encouraged to participate in the wider life of the school where appropriate, helping them to build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging within our school community.

We value strong home-school communication and believe that working in partnership with parents and guardians is essential in supporting each child’s progress and wellbeing.
